a) Population
            i) What’s the population of the country?  Compare this to the population of the US.  (Hint: The US population is 318,860,032 and counting (it gets higher every 8 seconds, but use this number for the assignment.

            ii) Where do the people live in this country?  Rural areas?  Urban areas?  What are the populations in the two cities you used for Question 2 b)?

The population in Bangladesh is around 156.6 million which is roughly half the population of the united states. Many of these people live in metropolitan areas such as Dhaka and Khulna in addition to many rural areas. The population of the capital city of Dhaka is 15 million and the population of Khulna is 1.4 million. Much of the population is situated around the many rivers of Bangladesh. b) Agriculture-
            i) What types of agriculture do they have and what type of diet do they have?

Agriculture in Bangladesh is very important as it is the single largest producer for the countries economy. Rice and Jute are the primary crops with wheat also having a great impact. Tea is also grown in the north. Because of the fertile soil and ample water supply crops, especially rice, can be grown in great amounts. As expected rice is a main part of the Bangladeshi diet. The meats that are emphasized in the Bangladeshi cuisine are beef, duck, chicken, and fish. The food here has been influenced by many cultures throughout history. (Food and Agriculture Organization)

c) Industry and Tourism
            i) Are industry and tourism related to geography and climate?

Other than attractions such as beaches and and forests tourism is not related to geography and climate. It is more based on history and culture as well as outdoor activities. The main industry in this country is textile and based more on culture. (Visit Bangladesh)

d) Cultural Activities
            i) Are there any notable historical events that add to the climate/culture story?

There is a lot of history that lead up to the independence of Bangladesh as a country. The location was established with the partition of Bengal and India in 1947. The region was called East Pakistan until 1971 after achieving independence from Pakistan in the Bangladesh Liberian War. (Infoplease)
